A brand new performer, but a very familiar feeling. Miranda Lee Richards is an American singer who's just released her first fully-fledged album (on Nettwerk, here via Munich). The CD 'Light Of X' primarily contains impassioned songs, stylishly arranged and especially: borne by a voice to be cherished. Something for those who also get a kick from 'ladies' like Aimee Mann, Lucinda Williams, Mazzy Star, ... or 'girls' like Alela Diane, Joan As Policewoman, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Rachael Yamagata.... She likes to call her music 'psychedelic chamber folk rock', with many tender references to relationships, coziness and better times, in titles like 'Early November', 'Last Days Of Summer', 'Here By The Window', 'Mirror At The End'... Always very serene and inspired, and that from a girl who recorded her first demos in Kirk Metallica Hammett's basement studio!
Support act will be the extremely appealing Blackie & The Oohoos. From out of Antwerp they present their 'eclectic altpop' as far as Vi.be and Volt (from Poppunt and Studio Brussel), with sisters Loesje and Martha Maieu out front. Fortunately this visit to the ABClub just fitted between the Dranouter Rally final and a number of dates in England!
