7:00 pm - SOUNDTRACK BY… DJ JASPER
8:30 pm - HAUSCHKA (d)
“’Ferndorf’ is a sweet and spirited adventure in pastoral(pseudo)glitch that tracks back to Eric Satie and Ralph Vaughn Williams.“ (Mojo)
Hauschka is the alter-ego of Dusseldorf resident and pianist/composer Volker Bertelmann. As a classically trained pianist he fully explores the possibilities of the prepared piano and, in doing so, he follows in the footsteps of American composer John Cage - who is considered to be the spiritual father of the prepared piano. Hauschka places leather or rubber between the strings or modifies the hammers of the piano with aluminium foil and adds electronica. Puristic or academic perfection is completely foreign to him. Rather, he uses the piano as a means of producing rhythm rather than melody. His work often exhibits parallels with the minimalism of Steve Reich, Philip Glass or Michael Nyman. In recent years he has primarily worked for the famous Fat Cat label, see: his recently released album ‘Ferndorf’ and the EP ‘Snowflakes & Carwrecks’. These sound ‘fuller’ than his earlier work, thanks to the use of strings, a formula which he will also apply when appearing at the Feeërieën. Minimal beauty all round! Certainly if you like Jóhann Jóhannsson…
9:45 pm -MAURO PAWLOWSKI
Mauro Pawlowski will replace LAIS LENSKI, who were initially planned to perform at the FEEËRIEËN on WED 26 AUGUST but, due to the perils of pregnancy, will not be able to appear. Instead, Mauro Pawlowski will play one of his seldom acoustic sets. No other performer has appeared in the AB in so many different forms as Mauro. From regular bands like (the late) Evil Superstars, dEUS, Mauro & The Grooms, Mauro (in the days of 'Songs From A Bad Hat'), The Love Substitutes to Othin Spake or The Parallels. He has also served as curator for the Carte Blanche weekend and he turned up on the AB-stage as 'guest' musician too - with Kiss My Jazz, the Shadowgraphic City project - he even came here to bury his very own Somnabula. But he hadn't yet visited the AB with a completely acoustic set though. Mauro as songwriter at his best!
