Irish singer-songwriter celebrates 70th birthday with new album
Irish singer-songwriter Luka Bloom has been part of the soundtrack of our country for more than a quarter century now. He tells us himself why he regularly visits Dutch and Belgian venues, with even more pleasure than usual this time: “For 35 years, coming to the Lowlands to sing my songs has always been very special. And this November, it will be even more so. On May 23rd, I will turn 70 years of age. I will celebrate this birthday by releasing a new record called ‘Beloved’. Songs and instrumental pieces I wrote last Autumn, just before I went into hospital in Dublin for open heart surgery. The record is dedicated to the surgeon, doctors and nurses, family and friends who saved my life in 2024. And next November, I will come to the Lowlands again, to sing my songs. Thank you, Netherlands. Thank you, Belgium. Thank you, Life.”
Armed with his acoustic guitar and amazing voice, Luka Bloom gathers every audience in the palm of his hand. His life and work are characterised by wonderful lyrics, borne on the melodies that his heart follows. His strength and charm still lie in the way that he can connect his audience through all the exposed emotions in his music. His song choice shines in its originality, with carefully chosen covers aside many of his own classics.
Expect a warm evening full of fine anecdotes and the many splendid, old and new songs from Luka Bloom’s entire oeuvre.
