Melancholic singersongwriter with flamenco influences
Charlie Cunningham is an English singer-songwriter who has quietly built an impressive career and is known for his melancholic, rhythm-driven music. He plays both piano and nylon-string guitar, creating a unique sound that shines in intimate venues like AB. Despite his dyslexia, which makes reading music difficult, he earned a music diploma and initially worked various side jobs while writing songs in his spare time.
In his twenties, Cunningham moved to Seville, Spain, where he immersed himself in flamenco for three years and worked intensively on his guitar techniques, which are now unmistakable in his music. Upon returning to England, he began performing in bars in London and Oxford, eventually returning to songwriting. So far, he has released three albums and four EPs, amassing over half a billion streams worldwide.
His latest single, "Happening Lately," produced by Luke Smith (known for work with Keaton Henson, Foals, and Everything Everything), hints at what’s to come. The song combines his signature guitar work with introspective lyrics that resonate strongly with listeners.
