Ex-Late of the Pier-member debuts with weird pop on Domino
“LA Priest made one of the debuts of the year.” (NME)
“Weirdly Wonderful.” (UNCUT)
“Unbridled and explorative. Pulling from a variety of influences can produce sparkling results when done by a capable pair of hands!” (THE GUARDIAN)
It’s raining stars in many a trade journal since Sam Dust – who we know from the late Late of the Pier and as tour-guitarist for Connan Mockasin – released his spaced-out devils as LA Priest. Devils, in the form of psychedelic pastiche-pop and soulful electro, that sometimes assume the spirit of David Bowie and Prince.
His much-savoured first release ‘Inji’ (out on Domino since 30/06) that – according to Humo – is full of “Midden-Oosterse digidub, cockrockgitaarsolo’s en flatulente baspartijen” brought Dust to Dour this summer, where – according to Cutting Edge – he treated the collected mass in La Petite Maison Dans La Prairie to “psychedelische space tunes die na afloop alleszins nog een hele poos door de oren bleven bliepen.”
One of the wierdest, but at the same time most exciting, of this year’s newcomers!
