Raw and retro r&b sound
They say themselves: 'Ba Da Ba Da Ba Da, Badiya Ba Da Ba Da Ba Da, Badiya Whoo Hoo Hooooo Hoo Hoooo...' As this is indeed a 'raw and retro r&b sound... mind-blowing harmonies... funky backbeats, big horns, and naturalistic, lo-fi production.' So: soul... and funk! And fun! As Kings Go Forth is named after a film that they haven't necessarily seen themselves and their cracking debut CD is called 'The Outsiders Are Back' (on David Byrne's Luaka Bop, here via Bertus.)
Hopefully you've already heard the single 'One Day' on the better radio stations? Or did your thoughts go straight out to Curtis Mayfield and other legendary voices and arrangements? The singer here is called 'Black Wolf' and apparently he just happened to step into the 'vintage' record shop of leader Andy Noble one fine day.
Another tidbit: the cover is made by one Mingering Mike for whom this is his first ever real cover (until now he mostly made fake covers, with fake cardboard records, yup, with fake grooves even!)
Steaming ladies and hot gents: Kings Go Forth, all the way from Milwaukee USA at your sweaty party in the ABClub!
Local but prominent support-act will be Loumèn: a black soul voice amongst electro, jazz and pop, with an increasing number of own songs, an appropriate amount of respect for Gil Scott-Heron, but Miss Loumèn sometimes also covers ‘I'm Coming Out’ by Nile Rodgers and maybe you heard her at UnderGroov' or in 'the better cafés' like Stuk and Belga!?
