Double concerts would seem to be the AB-trend of ’09! Following on from Bloc Party, the farewell concerts of El Tattoo Del Tigre, and Arsenal, now Jef Neve is in AB with a double concert too. After his blatantly impressive visit as 'backing band' to José James (still etched in our memory as a musical topper of ’08) Neve is now ready to preserve his Groove Thing project for future generations and will record a live-album via the in-house AB-studio. Groove Thing is still fulcrum Jef Neve (this time not on piano but on Hammond organ) and saxophonist Nicolas Kummert. Aside from these impassioned jazz musicians the other half of this quartet consists of Nicolas Thys (bass) and current New York-resident Lieven Venken on drums. Together: (musically) Groove Thing feels very strongly about the terms funky and groovy. On the programme: mainly their own work, but also a few jazz standards… Just a final warning from Groove Thing – who, by the way, also made quite an impression at the last edition of Jazz Middelheim- themselves: "Dancing is not forbidden, wiggling might be unavoidable!". It has been noted.
P.S.: In the meantime, try to practise professionally and enthusiastically clapping at home, as every hand-clap will be meticulously recorded and, in its entirety, end up on the first Groove Thing live-album.
Line up:
Jef Neve: Hammond organ, keyboards
Nicolas Kummert: saxophone
Nicolas Thys: bass
Lieven Venken: drum
This concert takes place as part of VW Spring.
