Hinds – FKA Deers (hind being the female form of deer) but a band of the same name undertook legal action – is one of the most charming discoveries of 2015. Together with acts like Honeyblood, Ex Hex and Girlpool, Hinds is one of the flagbearers of a brand new draft of ‘je m’en fous’ female rock bands.
The lo-fi garage rock of the girls from Madrid sounds deliciously messy and can be best appreciated live. “We know we aren’t big musicians”, admits this four-member unguided missile, “so we do this music with what we have and that’s love”. Their charm and enthusiasm make us completely forget that ‘lack of’… and just try standing still to songs like ‘Bamboo’, ‘Between Cans’ and ‘Chili Town’ anyway. Their long awaited debut album ‘Leave Me Alone’ comes out early next year (8/01) via Mom + Pop / Lucky Number (NEWS in Belgium). Until then, we continue to shout along to “I want you to call me by my name when I am lying on your bed” (from ‘Bamboo’). An unbridled party, guaranteed!
