Tribute to Holland's best-known punk-rock band.
After almost 1500 shows all over Europe, The United States, Japan and South Africa, the Heideroosjes have had enough. The foursome has been operating with the same line-up since 1989. That's not a band, that's a BAND. So that same band is taking one last triumphant lap - with a brand new album entitled ‘Cease-Fire’ and a European farewell tour.
Who would have thought that the adventure would last 22 years? Well, not the parents of those four 15-year-old teenagers who started a band in an old chicken shed. But with hard work and an irrepressible energy Heideroosjes grew from a shaky little punk band into an internationally-operating tour-monster. With nine studio-albums and a prestigious EDISON to their name. The band has now sold a hundred thousand albums too, surely encouraged by their ever energetic live-shows.
The Heideroosjes caravan never rested on its laurels. Pinkpop, Rock Werchter, Lowlands, Pukkelpop, they conquered them all. The album ‘FIFI’ from 1996 appeared in the Top 100 Albums for more than 6 months and, in doing so, became the best sold Dutch punk album of all time.
Heideroosjes also directed their energies at foreign markets. The guys toured the world on their own or together with musically related bands like Pennywise, Offspring and The Misfits. Paris, London, Sarajevo, Milan, Berlin, New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo or Johannesburg... you name it, the Heideroosjes have toured there and their albums are to be found in shops there. Furthermore, the guys have played with the most diverse performers, varying from the classical Metropole Orkest to childhood hero Urbanus or rock legend Lemmy Kilmister from Mötorhead.
In 2008 Heideroosjes surprised friend and foe with their first theatre show. Pardon? That's right, a theatre show! According to the band, who played that show almost 100 times in all (in Belgium and The Netherlands): “We wanted to try out something new. Just because there's such a contrast between punk and theatre”. The Algemeen Dagblad wrote in a review: “a surprisingly strong debut… intelligent humor à la Jiskefet!”.
But now the foursome throws the towel in the ring after all. Under the motto: “it’s better to burn out than to fade away”. The four guys from the chicken shed have achieved everything they ever wanted to. The story can be concluded.
