Fit funk! Sultry soul! A big hit with 'MoneyGrabber: don't cooome back anytime, I've already had your kind/you already robbed me blind, this is you're payback, moneygrabber!'
Fitz and the Tantrums is a brand new, fervent soul-funk ensemble based in Los Angeles. The great instigator really is a certain Fitz (with striking blonde streak). The story goes that our pure-bred musician unexpectedly picked up an old organ for a bargain and immediately started playing it at home. That resulted in one catchy soul song after the other. Fitz had found his musical thing!
So on debut CD 'Pickin' Up The Pieces' (via V2) there are heaps of infectious, extremely danceable songs, all recorded in Fitz' home. Quite simply a must for those who also get a kick out of classics by Motown, Stax, Hall & Oates and, why ever not, Tom Jones!?
Aside from Fitz there are more starring roles reserved in the swinging band for singer Noelle Scaggs, John Wicks on drums, Joseph Karnes on bass, James King on saxophone plus Jeremy Ruzumna on keyboard (previously 'musical director' to Macy Gray!) And yup: no guitars, that was another well executed challenge.
Fitz and the Tantrums have now shared stages with Maroon 5 and Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Now finally on their own in the ABClub!
