Blck Mamba gets carte blanche at Feeërieën. Long live amapiano x gqom!
Our free summer festival, Feeërieën, returns to the enchanting Warande Park from August 28th to September 1st. Treat your ears to the best in contemporary dub, neoclassical, electronica, desert blues, Scottish smallpipe music, South African gqom, hip-hop, and amapiano!
We are delighted to give carte blanche to Brussels-based graphic designer, DJ, and producer Blck Mamba for the closing evening of Feeërieën. We know her mainly as a Studio Brussel DJ and from her party concept, Mo Mamba. Since emerging as a producer, she dropped the letter ‘a’ in her name “to be easier to find on the internet.” Her first tracks, Baby Got Juice and What U Gonna Do, were released via Future Bounce, the British label of radio DJ Jamz Supernova. We can’t wait to go wild to her mix of hip-hop and South African amapiano – a hybrid form of deep house spiced with jazzy piano sounds. “Blck Mamba is taking the dancefloor by storm,” we read a while back on the VPRO – something we can absolutely confirm.
Lateena (CH) may have a love-hate relationship with her homeland, Jamaica. After outing herself as transgender, she was forced to leave her island as a political refugee. Since 2019, she’s been living in Switzerland, where she’s claimed the title of “Switzerland’s dancehall queen.” Anyone hearing her tracks on Soundcloud will be shouting, “And rightly so!”
Rokia Bamba (BE) has come a long way since launching one of the first radio shows about hip-hop in the '90s. Since then, she has mixed groovy hip-hop, African rhythms, house, and techno at socially-engaged parties. She calls herself an ‘artivist’: “I can’t separate my political engagement from my artistic work.” We recently became addicted to her Enjaillement mix on Soundcloud, in which she seamlessly mixes Six Days (DJ Shadow), Wait / Pause (Alana Maria), and Opp Thot by Cristale. Impressive!
This evening will be hosted by MC Zelda Fitzgerald
