Carte blanche for jazz label W.E.R.F. to create a true triple bill
There are a limited number of combi-tickets available for the concerts taking place as a part of The New Wave Of Belgian Jazz! from WEDNESDAY 13 to TUESDAY 19 DECEMBER.
AB is proud to present THE NEW WAVE OF BELGIAN JAZZ!: a fantastic seven-dayer to conclude the successful JAZZ 100 series. We focus on the latest generation of musicians from The Contemporary National Jazz Scene, for whom jazz is more of a mentality than a genre.
W.E.R.F. RECORDS
Jazz label W.E.R.F. Records – the abbreviation hails from Wasted Energy Record Factory – was established in 1993 as a one-off support act to Bruges pianist Kris Defoort. Almost a quarter century later, the almost endless list of musicians to have appeared on the label is like an encyclopedic overview of Belgian jazz. Think: Kris Defoort, Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Octurn, Mâäk’s Sprit, Tuur Florizoone, Robin Verheyen or Black Flower. AB has given W.E.R.F. 100% carte blanche. The label presents their latest recruits in a true triple bill.

SCHNTZL
SCHNTZL = duo Hendrik Lasure (piano) & Casper Van De Velde (drums) who drop wonderfully minimal and filmic compositions on their untitled debut produced by Koen Gisen (see too: Dans Dans, Flying Horseman). Sometimes reserved, sometimes rousing. With echoes of GoGo Penguin, Mark Guiliana and Brad Mehldau to masters like Keith Jarrett and Philip Glass. Jazzism: ‘Kernwoorden zijn lef, melancholie, lyrisch samenspel, gelaagdheid, intensiteit en krachtige uitgesponnen composities.’
Line-up: Hendrik Lasure (piano), Casper Van De Velde (Drums)

COMPRO ORO
Jazz ensemble from Ghent that flirts with latin, but in the same way that Cal Tjader, Marc Ribot Y Los Cubanos Postizos or Mulatu Astatke would. Their debut ‘Transatlantic’ and the latest 10 inch ‘Bombarda’ were fantastic. Forced Exposure described their music as ‘a jungle trip on LSD, or a twang-American, psychedelic road trip to Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas’.
Line-up: Wim Segers (vibraphone & marimba), Bart Vervaeck (guitar), Matthias Debusschere (bass), Robbe Kieckens (percussion), Frederik Van den Berghe (drums)

BERAADGESLAGEN
BeraadGeslagen is the inspiring project of Lander Gyselinck (LAB Trio, Stuff.) and Fulco Ottervanger (De Beren Gieren, Stadt). After ten years of jamming in dusty rehearsal rooms and sweaty basements, they finally released their debut EP last year. An untitled volume full of wonderfully orchestrated chaos, brusque drum excesses and surprising synth-utterances. Long live the ‘Suikerbeat’!
Line-up: Lander Gyselinck (drums), Fulco Ottervanger (keys)
