Piano talent from London blurs the boundaries between jazz, grime and hip-hop
Award-winning London jazz pianist, singer, composer and producer Ashley Henry can already present a remarkable rĂ©sumĂ© at a relatively young age. He toured worldwide as pianist for Christine and the Queens and also performed as opener for Loyle Carner. His album âBeautiful Vinyl Hunterâ (2019) was even nominated in the category âAlbum of the Yearâ by BBC 6 Music. Detail: at the time, it was only the second jazz album ever to have earned such a nomination.
Ashley Henry says his music has been influenced both by writers James Baldwin and Angela Davis as well as by musicians like Ahmad Jamal, George Benson, Geri Allen and Aretha Franklin. Clash Music once uttered these wonderful words: âThe sheer breadth of Ashley Henryâs vision is jaw-dropping.â
In the autumn of 2024, his latest album âWho We Areâ will be released on his brand new own label Royal Raw Music, which aims to be âcontinually pursuing and pushing the boundaries of artistic expression and collaboration.â
