Belgian synth-jazz-wonder scores with fantastic debut album!
The very first jazz album was released 100 years ago: The Original Dixieland Jass Band with ‘Livery Stable Blues’. That’s why AB will be paying extra attention to jazz for a year. From contemporary classics to musical troublemakers who are inspired by jazz, to the latest incredibly headstrong jazz generation from local soil.
With all that international talent, you could almost forget that our very own land also contains quite some jazz talent. So too synth-jazz-man Pomrad – aka Antwerp’s Adriaan Van De Velde – who delivered a fantastic debut album in mid-2016: ‘Knights’. Latest single ‘Hydratation’ is a first-class electro-funk track, with Flying Lotus-like beats and voluptuous jazz rhythms of the highest order.
Pomrad’s live show is Phenomenal: An electro-jazz spectacle (with keytar!) that feels like the re-working of Herbie Hancock’s oeuvre by Daft Punk, orchestrated by a trio of masterful musicians!
