Luaka Bop presents: Sierra Leone roots bubu trance!
Free for those attending the Arsenal concert on this same evening in the Main Hall.
Bubu! Dance-trance music from Sierra Leone, where Janka Nabay fled from a civil war and was able to enter The United States. That’s where he found the right musicians for his Bubu Gang and a deal with David Byrne's Luaka Bop label (now for his second, stunning CD 'Build music’).
FOR FANS OF bubu, but also Ghanese highlife, 'polyrhythmic folk tunes', in short: 'Global Grooves where cultures easily mix in a melting pot of electronic beats' and of course 'Awesome tapes from Africa'.
THE PRESS
Pitchfork: 'Nabay's weathered but agile voice is the kind of instrument that would likely sound at home on a sparse field recording.'
FUN FACTS
Sometimes also calls himself 'black cowboy' and surely you still recall the Casio sound?
