A quarter century after their self-titled debut, the world’s most notorious Latino-hoppers Cypress Hill bring us a red-hot ninth longplayer ‘Elephants on Acid’ and a world tour to underscore that 25th anniversary.
With their lingering ‘stoned funk’ beats (copyright DJ Muggs), reverence of cannabis, and the sharp nasal flow of rapper B-Real (including one-liner raps by Sen Dog), Cypress Hill helped to define the sudden advance of 90’s ‘West Coast’ hip-hop. Hits like ‘Insane in the Brain’, ‘How I Could Just Kill A Man’, ‘Illusions’ and ‘(Rock)&(Rap) Superstar’ hit just as hard as the rush from simultaneously inhaling three joints full of first-class weed, becoming public property in hip-hop land.
Approved at Brussels’ top-festival Couleur Café last year – “verfrissend, bloedstollende baslijnen en een fijne festivalklassieker!“ wrote webzine Cutting Edge – and soon, after a long absence on the Belgian indoor concert circuit, back in a steaming AB. “Throw ya set in the air, wave it around like ya just don’t care!”
