A well-earned AB finale for Eefje and her unique Bittersweet tour.
After an impressive, sold-out show at AB in June of this year (and now a rightly lauded appearance at Pukkelpop), on Thursday 8 December Eefje de Visser eagerly returns to AB with her sensual, graceful, subtle, smart performance! Come hear and see this, come experience Eefje and her magical musical universe. This concert is even accompanied by two concerts (on December 5 and 6) in Amsterdam’s Royal Theatre Carré!
After the tour was initially postponed due to the pandemic, Eefje de Visser played her ‘Bitterzoet’ shows this spring. For this full band show, Eefje took along her 5 musical companions. For the visual production, Eefje worked together with her regular Belgian lighting designer Randall Diagre, Dutch light artist Nick Verstand, and choreographer Sandra Hilaerts. The show received rave reviews from public and press. The show at Pinkpop, after the tour, was even chosen as Best Show of the festival by VPRO's 3voor12. Last weekend, Eefje de Visser made an impression at Lowlands (with which she completed her festival season in The Netherlands).
The Dutch singer’s album was released in 2020, right before the lockdown. In that same year she won many prizes, including the Edison Pop Prize in the categories ‘Alternative’ and ‘Best Album’, the 3FM Award for ‘Best Artist’, the Gouden Notenkraker, the 3voor12 Award, and the Buma Award for ‘Best Album’ and ‘Best Alternative Album’.
Eefje de Visser’s LP ‘Bitterzoet’ seeks meaning in a refuge of abstract notions. In this project she uses the Dutch language in a poetic manner and in so doing gives a particular vibe to her lyrics. Production-wise, her work is experimental but it captures the most human of emotions, always allowing the listener to find a point of connection.
The Ghent-based artist makes increasingly prominent use of other art forms, such as film or dance, in her music. In 2020 there was a concert film released, also called ‘Bitterzoet’. This combination of different arts recurs many times in her shows.
