Legendary experimental pioneer presents Futura Resistenza release
After an exclusive duo concert on May 16 with Mark Fell at the Hear Here festival in Stuk in Leuven, Limpe Fuchs will give an equally exclusive piano concert at Volta.
Limpe Fuchs has been a grande dame of the international experimental music scene for decades and can without a doubt be called a living legend. Together with her husband, sculptor Paul Fuchs, she formed Anima Musica and was recognized for her pioneering influence on the experimental underground of the late ‘60s, early ‘70s and German krautrock.
As professional percussionist, she has been experimenting with improvisational sounds and visual performances without fixed form for more than 40 years, making use of handmade instruments and sound sculptures. Her compelling performances invite the audience to listen attentively and with complete concentration. As she moves freely through the space, she brings her natural soundscapes to life.
Late last year she released an album in collaboration with Mark Fell on Black Truffle (the label of Oren Ambarchi). The Wire wrote of it: “Often, the album evokes something like a Walter Smetak record interpolated with precision whittled electronic sounds; at others it’s like a glitching gamelan ensemble. Across the two hour arc there’s a sense you’re hearing geometric shapes gradually collapse and reassemble. Like a Cubist painting realised on a damp canvas.”
For this show at Volta’s Echochamber, Limpe will (by way of exception) play a piano concert – as she can be heard on last year’s album Pianoon, released on Futura Resistenza.
Nika Son is an experimental musician, artist, film composer, curator and DJ based in Hamburg. By interweaving dreamy musique concrète with analogue and digital synths, broken rhythms, vocals and modulated tape, her work captures the fluid, ever changing character of the night. The familiar becomes strange and the surrealistic feels strangely familiar.
Her debut album To Eeyore was released in 2020 on Entr’acte/Stellage. Her new album Aslope was released in June 2024 on V I S, as was soundtrack DRIFT on Futura Resistenza.
