With Rhymesayers, flagbearers of Minneapolis's hip-hop scene
‘No Kings’ is the second all-crew album by hip-hop collective Doomtree, from Minneapolis, who are especially known for their explosive live shows and their energetic DIY mentality. What's more, they break the rules of the genre and brew their own intelligent and contemporary concoction, just like their other city-mates on the Rhymesayers label.
The 7 members of Doomtree (P.O.S., Dessa, Sims, Cecil Otter, Mike Mictlan, Lazerbeak and Paper Tiger) also maintain super solo-careers that are closely followed by prominent press like The New York Times, Spin and Rolling Stone. All hell breaks loose when they mount the stage together, not in the least due to their performances that are union of punk, indie-rock and experiment. The successor to their fine ‘False Hopes XV’ received the title ‘No Kings’ because Doomtree summons rebellion and respect. There are no kings in Minneapolis.
This concert is a part of the Minneapolis, Mon Amour project initiated by AB in the 2011-2012 season. This concert series based upon the musical heritage of the American city celebrates the 30th anniversary of debut ‘Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash’ by American rock band The Replacements. A point of reference in musical history that AB makes good use of to present concerts by the likes of veterans The Jayhawks and Grant Hart, and also new names like Howler, Dark Dark Dark and 2 leading hip-hop crews: Rhymesayers and this Doomtree.
Support-act will be the new project of the MCs from Beat Drunx, entitled Moontroop. Soon to be releasing their first album. In the meantime you can find a track here: http://moontroop.bandcamp.com
