Sampling king and turntablist introduces new record "Action Adventure"
Sampling king and turntablist Josh Davis, better known as DJ Shadow, to Belgium with his new record "Action Adventure". Throughout his impressive career of now more than 30 years, Josh Davis has always expressed his passion, taste and values through his music.
From his iconic masterpiece "Endtroducing..." to the genre-crossing UNKLE album "Psyence Fiction" to the mesmerising elegance of "The Private Press" and the iconic single "Six Days". His works from the 1990s and the first decade of the 2000s were soon seen as indispensable in music history. Following this, Shadow released more high-profile albums, including "The Less You Know, the Better," with a nod to rock music, and closed the decade with "The Mountain Will Fall" and "Our Pathetic Age", on which he collaborated with luminaries such as Run the Jewels, Nas and De La Soul. His restless search for forgotten gems of music history and new sound experiments is the common thread throughout his career. His latest album, "Action Adventure" has become a self-reflective project, and was created in the troubled days during the global COVID lockdown. This album promises to be one of the most exciting DJ Shadow records, as a kind of tribute to his lifelong dedication to music but also to his role as a collector and curator. After a year in which Davis struggled to make new music, unique tapes from the 1980s brought him much-needed inspiration. "Action Adventure" is an expression of Davis's uncompromised artistic vision and promises an immersive listening experience. The album was released to the world last Friday.
The concert is part of the "HIP-HOP 50" series where AB celebrates the 50th anniversary of one of the most fascinating cultures in recent music history.
