Sweet ‘60s soul with the grit and groove of early ‘70s R&B
San Diego-based soul trio Thee Sacred Souls is the latest sensation on our favourite funk and soul label Daptone Records (see also: Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley, The Budos Band). In 2019, the trio was spotted at one of their first concerts ever by Bosco Mann, the founder of Daptone Records. The three were offered a record deal on the spot and Bosco Mann also proposed producing their debut album.
Thee Sacred Souls mixes sweet, gracious ‘60s soul with raw, groovy ‘70s R&B. The compelling melodies, honeyed falsetto of singer Josh Lane and solid rhythm section – containing Alex Garcia on drums and Sal Salmano on bass – have one dreaming of a sultry summer evening on the beach in California.
Those who were there last fall for their sold-out, Belgian stage debut in the AB Club are no doubt still enthralled.
