Flag bearers of the new batch of Chicano soul
Southern California trio Thee Sacred Souls are the latest sensation on our favourite funk and soul label Daptone Records. In 2019, at one of their first ever concerts, they were spotted by Bosco Mann, founder of Daptone, who promptly offered them a record deal and suggested he produce their debut album due in August. The music is a mix of sweet, gracious '60s soul and raw, groovy '70s R&B. Their compelling melodies, the solid rhythm section with Alex Garcia on drums and bassist Sal Salmano, and singer Josh Lane's sweetly falsetto voice make you feel like you're on a sultry summer evening on a San Diego beach.
