Amazing psychedelic dream-pop from New-Zeeland.
Connan Mockasin makes an impression everywhere he goes. His appearance isn't exactly ordinary and his music sounds extremely amazing. The androgynous voice of New-Zeelander Connan Tant Hosford – his real name – can account for that of course. His debut ‘Forever Dolphin Love’ (from ’11) bore and air of dreamy pop, whereby there was no avoidance of experiment. Insiders juggled words like psychedelica, prog rock, space jazz and retro futurism. Radiohead, Johnny Marr (The Smiths) and Charlotte Gainsbourg were instant fans.
Connan Mockasin’s second album ‘Caramel’ will be released this fall. A concept album actually. Connan? “Oh, the concept is that it’s actually an album. It starts with the dolphin [from the debut album] leaving, and the boss (the man) who is so in love with the dolphin is sad, and then it kicks into the new album, and he is happier. But there’s a car race and a crash…”
Welcome to the wonderful and extremely absurd and awesome world of Connan Mockasin!
