Warning: Smoking Ban inspection during Colin Stetson on Monday 28 November 2011
Since 1 January 2006 it has no longer been permitted to smoke in public places, so not in AB either. After consultation between AB and the Federal Department of Public Health, Food-Chain Safety and the Environment, there will be a number of inspections carried out in the AB over the coming months by the Public Health department.
The next inspection will be on the during the Colin Stetson concert on Monday November 28th 2011.
Tom Waits, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver and The National are fans already. Now you!
"Colin Stetson is one of our greatest living saxophone players.” (Bon Iver)
He is part of the Arcade Fire live band, and can also be heard in their latest short film ‘Scenes From The Suburbs’ (written by Spike Jonze). This spring he opened in Europe for his buddies Godspeed You! Black Emperor (who also released his album via Constellation Records). He was nominated earlier this year for the Polaris Music Prize, the prestigious prize for best Canadian album of 2011. He has played with and/or can be heard on tracks by Feist, Bon Iver, Tom Waits, TV On The Radio, David Byrne, Lcd Soundsytem and The National. To put it briefly: Colin Stetson is highly rated among professional musicians.
His latest album ‘New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges’, which came out this year - featuring collaborations by Lauri Anderson and My Brightest Diamond among others – was given an excellent 8.2 on Pitchfork. Stetson is a master of circular breathing and the way he plays tenor sax is reminiscent of past masters such as Evan Parker, Peter Brötzmann and Anthony Braxton. This autumn he will be joining the Bon Iver live band and is also playing at the renowned curatorship festival, All Tomorrow’s Parties, still intimately known as the AB Club.
This concert will take place as part of Skoda Jazz.
