Exquisite double bill bulging with avant garde/spiritual/afro-futuristic jazz
Saxophonist Colin Stetson is a master of circular breathing. The way he plays the tenor sax is immediately reminiscent of (free jazz) masters such as Evan Parker, Peter Brötzmann and Anthony Braxton. His resume is downright impressive: he has already played with or can be heard on records by Feist, Bon Iver, Tom Waits, TV On The Radio, David Byrne, LCD Soundsystem and The National. Stetson is also a member of the live band of Arcade Fire and Bon Iver.
His first AB appearance dates back to 2011; in 2022, he will be making his fifth.
Kahil El’Zabar’s Quartet
Multi-percussionist, bandleader, vocalist, composer and conductor Kahil El'Zabar has been at the forefront of Chicago's creative avant-garde jazz scene for over 4 decades. El'Zabar is considered the pioneer of spiritual groove and Afrocentric jazz. He has recorded and performed with heavyweights such as Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp, David Murray, Lester Bowie, Nina Simone and Stevie Wonder. His latest album, 'A Time For Healing', is again a resounding success.
