Coca-Cola Sessions
Rock&Roll revives in AB with this impressive double-bill
Fine folk to appear in the first Coca-Cola session for ’14! Dvkes –with members of The Tellers, Statue, Meuris and Stavroz (bands that have already earned their stripes in AB over recent years)– plus Tubelight –with one Lee Swinnen (son of …) as trailblazer– that injected the previous Humo’s Rock Rally final in AB with the required rock&roll factor.
Dvkes are to be found at the crossing between Arctic Monkeys, Gorillaz and The Presidents Of The USA (so they say) and they jot down fresh indie-pop songs with a raw edge. Their first EP ‘Let Me Go Into The Wild’, on Waste My Records (Bed Rugs, Protection Patrol Pinkerton, King Dalton and Creature With The Atom Brain) houses the smashing singles ‘Happy’ and ‘Lucy Called My Name’ and was recorded with the assistance of Johannes ‘The Van Jets’ Verschaeve. “De groovy sound en limoentjesfrisse verpakking vormen enkele potentiële hitjes, heerlijke indierock waarvan de topjes even in het slijk gedopt zijn” was what RifRaf mentioned in their Homegrown edition, Nov ’13 issue.
Tubelight
Psychedelic shoegaze with noise-influences, from Diest! That must be the guys from Tubelight. They who put together ‘Coming After You’ - a first top-class single that had high rotation at StuBru. "Mark E. Smith (of great example The Fall) influenced us to start drinking" was what the guys had noted during the interview prior to their StuBru Select-session. Hallelujah, rock and roll is alive in Flanders! Tubelight & Dvkes will herald that fact with great pleasure and the necessary noise, on stage in the AB Club.
