California noir' guitar-bravura rock & roll!
WHAT?
Rock & Roll, no BS, mainly guitars, preferably a Stratocaster, and a smashing live-performer. Now putting out new CD 'Bobby Fuller Died For Your Sins' (on Yep Roc via V2.) Our favourite 'prophet' is indeed referring to that author of 'I Fought The Law', who died too soon, but Alan Vega or David Bowie could also count on his tribute. He describes his latest CD as, above all, 'California Noir' – about the darker side of that 'sunny state' .
THE PRESS?
Hold onto your chair:
Humo on that latest CD: '...een zoveelste smakelijke solo-plaat... over rock-'n-roll dit keer... een levendige en spitse, kortom hoogst vermakelijke boel.'
Mojo 4*: 'chiming Fender guitars, Dylan-meets-the-Stones song forms and everywhere ageless rock'n'roll'
Record Collector 4*: 'a real tonic, a reminder how potent and straightforward melodic pop/rock can be'
Q Magazine 4*: 'Quite an achievement'
Independent 4*: 'master guitarist and accomplished songwriter is on top form'
Daily Express 4*: 'his very best work...the streetwise air of a more bitter and sardonic Tom Petty'
