AB curates stage at Beursplein for second year in a row
For the second year in a row, AB (in collaboration with Brussels Jazz Weekend) and, in addition to other leading Brussels cultural houses (such as Botanique, Bozar, Flagey, Les Lundis d'Hortense and VK), curates the stage on the Beursplein for one afternoon/evening in front of the newly renovated and opened Brussels Stock Exchange. On the program:
16:30 > Place de la Bourse : JAZZ CATS: BRUNO X SOET X MOENE
Bruno De Smet (keys), Soet Kempeneer (bass, synths), Moene Peeters (drums)
Deeply inspired by jazz, funk, fusion and jungle, this trio has listened closely to acts like Kamaal Williams, Yussef Dayes and STUFF. to create their own sound. AliA and Lefto Early Bird consider themselves fans, we gladly join them. Are you next?
17:45 > Place de la Bourse: LEFTO (DJ)
“Lefto is always right!” It is therefore logical that we would like to promote his vision about the future of Belgian jazz. That vision can already be heard on the compilation Jazz Cats 3. “I am very impressed by the amount of creative ‘jazz’ talent in this country. Therefore, I am very proud to present to you the third installment of Jazz Cats. This compilation is dedicated to the young and hardworking musicians who are the present and the future of Belgium’s jazz scene.”
18:30 > Place de la Bourse: JAZZ CATS: ECHOFARMER
Thijs van Scharen (drums), Sander Huys (bass), Arne Nuyts (keys)
Feeding on off-kilter grooves and organic textures, Echofarmer collages his inspirations into detailed musical labyrinths. As hard hitting breakbeats carve their way through ambient fields and sub basses, every Echofarmer concert is a subway train that doesn't stop.
19:30 > Place de la Bourse: LEFTO (DJ)
20:15 > Place de la Bourse: BOMBATAZ
Vitja Pauwels (guitar, voice), Hendrik Lasure (keys), Ruben De Maesschalck (bass), Casper Van De Velde (drums)
These four all-round musicians pick and choose from every possible genre at their discretion, shaking a dash of jazz with a touch of funk and a pinch of synth-hop in order to assemble a cocktail that is as unique as danceable. Catchy tunes, often contrary, not to be difficult but because it feels better this way. Passion and emotion are key.
21:15 > Place de la Bourse: LEFTO (DJ)
22:00 > Beursplein: THE HELIOCENTRICS (UK)
Dan Smith (guitar, electronics), Barbora Patkova (vocals, percussion), Danny Keane (cello, electronics), James Arben (bass clarinet, oboe), Sylvia Halley (hurdy gurdy, Serengi), Jake Ferguson (bass, effects), Malcolm Catto (drums, percussion)
They created the music that they wanted to hear but couldn’t find, inspired by world music, Hip Hop, Psychedelia, Post Punk, Electronica, Afrobeat, Spiritual Jazz, Krautrock, experimental music, late 60’s raw Funk and more. This resulted in an impressive and eclectic catalog and collabs with – amongst others – DJ Shadow, Archie Shepp, Bilal and Marshal Allen.
