Future electronica for fans of Arca, PAN and Tri Angle
BRDCST is AB’s brand new indoor spring festival, one whereby we focus on musical limitlessness. The name is a direct reference to the retro futuristic electronica-pop of English band Broadcast, which released inspiring albums like ‘Haha Sound’ and ‘Noise Made By The People’ over the past decade. Artists who feel strongly about musical innovation will form the focal point for BRDCST.
Visionist (DJ - UK)
The music of London producer Visionist – aka Louis Carnell – seems to, literally, catapult us into the future. With his meticulous, ominous vocal samples, Visionist can promptly join the crème de la crème of the visionary-sounding club of electronica conjurers à la Holly Herndon and Arca. When you know that the latter has already acted as producer for the likes of Kanye West, FKA Twigs and Björk, then we’re willing to bet that Visionist has a golden future awaiting him.
The most tangible evidence is his debut ‘Safe’, where he casts off the yoke of grime-producer and immerses himself in minimalistic spooky electronica. Another benefit: he’s backed up by Berlin’s PAN label, the label that also looks after top electronica artists like Lee Gamble, Afrikan Sciences, Bill Kouligas and M.E.S.H..
M.E.S.H. (live - UK)
Absolute revelation of the latest PAN night at the Feeërieen was without a doubt Berlin’s M.E.S.H. James Whipple’s electronic soundscapes sound abrasive, icily industrial and hazy but at the same time have an organic and impressionistic edge to them. His debut ‘Piteous Gate’ is also one of the most impressive specimens of experimental electro-ambient in a long time. M.E.S.H. is able to interpret that live, thanks to his residency at the hot Janus parties in Berlin, in an incredible and overwhelming experience.
Lotic (live - US/D)
Berlin is still the capital of weirdness in the electronica world. This Lotic – who hails from Texas, just like sound-mate Rabit – also resides in the hipster city of Europe like M.E.S.H. What’s more, the two are also colleagues in the up and coming Janus collective that clearly lives off the scintillating underground scène in the city.
In contrast to Visionist and M.E.S.H., Lotic sounds clear and clubby. His ‘Fallout-EP’ from ‘13 is bursting with unorthodox house, his latest EP ‘Heterocetera’ (out via Tri Angle) is ominous and dark. His motto: ‘As a DJ, I Want people to dance, but I also want them to be a little bit unsure of what’s going on most of the time’. Welcome to his bizarrotronic world!
