Ão is a promising young foursome that delivers an exciting mix of saudade, indie and subtle electronica, with the phenomenal voice of frontwoman Brenda Corijn to top it all off. Corijn draws on her Mozambican-Portuguese roots for the Portuguese and English vocals that are intertwined with Siebe Chau’s southern guitar, the ambient sounds and production by Jolan Decaestecker, and Bert Peyffers’s eclectic percussion.

Ão’s still fledgling career took off around the arrival of the new year with the mesmerising single Mulher that not only impressed domestically but was even picked up by the influential KEXP from Seattle. Follow-ups will only serve to fuel interest all over Europe (and probably far beyond). 

Ão’s debut album Ao Mar was released in October 2023 on Mayway Records. The four further deepen their intoxicating sound on this album. The new work is more danceable and has a poppy edge. Think: FKA Twigs, Lhasa de Sela, Arooj Aftab, Çeu or James Blake.

 Ão is outright mind-blowing live. Not just a good show with great musicians and a fantastic voice, but a breathtaking, unique and exciting experience.
