Our favourite German experimental krautpop artist finally at the Club
This German artist made her mark on the electronic music scene from the moment her self-titled debut album Anika was released in 2010. That album was inspired by post-dub-punk and released on Invada Records with Beak> as backing band.
With her Nico-esque voice, lo-fi production and a selection of notable The Kinks, Yoko Ono and Bob Dylan covers (amongst others), Anika soon attracted the well-deserved attention of audiences, press and concert- and festival-programmers. That marked the onset of her ongoing quest within the worlds of music, film, poetry and art.
Second album Change followed in 2021, an album filled with pent-up frustration but also with cautious optimism. The album was praised by the press (The Wire, The Quietus, 4* in Mojo, Uncut, … amongst others).
Annika Henderson, her real naam, is also a founding member of the Mexican psych-band Exploded View (signed to Sacred Bones) and has collaborated with punk icons like Gudrun Gut and Beate Bartel (Malaria!, Liaisons Dangereuses), Tricky, Jim Jarmusch, Soundwalk Collective, Shackleton, Clark (Warp), PBDY (Brainfeeder), performance artists and fashion houses.
Her most recent work is a video art project, Anika - Alone In The City, in collaboration with the n.b.k. gallery in Berlin. She also released a guitar- and synth-driven psychedelic experimental live album in 2023: Eat Liquid, recorded at the Zeiss Planetarium in Berlin. That year, she also toured with the Soloist ensemble Kaleidoskop, with which she presented a remake of Nico’s Desertshore.
We are honoured to welcome this unique artist to our Club.
