Van een opmerkelijke comeback naar de concertzalen gesproken! UB40 is terug! De groep heeft de jaren 80 mee gekleurd. Sinds hun gouden jaren zijn ze een referentie en grote bron van inspiratie geweest voor vele anderen. Hun grote talent: songs uit de sixties transformeren door ze met ska, reggae, pop en blues te overgieten. En dat levert zeer knap werk en dikke hits op zoals ‘Red Red Wine’, origineel een song uit 1969 van Tony Tribe of ‘Many Rivers To Cry’ van Jimmy Cliff, ‘I Got You Babe’ van Sonny & Cher en ‘Here I Am’ van Al Brown. UB40 toont zich meester in het genre. Geen andere groep weet songs uit het verleden zo op eigen manier te kleuren. De groep, opgericht in 1978 in Birmingham, door de toen werkloze vrienden Ali Campbell (zang), James Brown (drums) en Astro (trompet), ontleent zijn naam aan een formulier van de Engelse sociale dienst om een werkloosheidsuitkering aan te vragen. UB40 groeit uit tot een multicultureel gezelschap dat sociale thema’s niet schuwt. De discografie van de groep is indrukwekkend en ondanks de vele groepswissels blijft de groep actief. In 2008 stappen zowel Ali Campbell als Michael Virtue uit de groep. In 2010 stelt UB40 ‘Labour of Love IV’ voor. Onder leiding van Duncan Campbell (broer van) en Astro onderneemt UB40 nu opnieuw een tournee. Op dindsag 31 januari komen ze naar de AB in Brussel.
