The Bear That Wasn't – een naam ontleend aan een kinderboek van Frank Tashlin uit ’46 - is het alterego van Nils Verresen. Gewapend met akoestische gitaar en angelieke stembanden imponeerde hij reeds te AB als opener voor Kimya Dawson. Als invloeden haalt hij vaak Gravenhurst, Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver en Elliott Smith aan. Dit voorjaar verscheen zijn debuut ‘And So It Is Morning Dew’ waarop hij traditiegetrouw mooie songitels verzint als ‘The Little Witch And The Brave Boy Are Going To Venus’ of ‘The Exciting Adventures of A Bad Bet, A Bad Alliteration And Mister Consequences’. Maar belangrijker: een plaat vol prachtige Duyster-muziek met parels als ‘Winterwandering’ die je zo op endless repeat zet. Voor en na zijn passage op de Feeërieën werkt(e) deze beer een Belgische tournee af onder de noemer ‘365 dagen’, waarbij hij per fiets en gewapend met akoestische gitaar 365 gezinnen opzoekt die hem een nacht onderdak willen verschaffen. In ruil geeft Nils een huiskamerconcert. Van dit unieke project verschijnt later een film van de hand van mensen achter ‘Part of the Weekend Never Dies’, de tourdocumentaire van Soulwax.
21.45u - Sons of Noel and Adrian
Twaalfkoppige experimentele folk band uit Brighton gecentreerd rond Tom Cowan (zoon van Adrian) en Jacob Richardson (zoon van, inderdaad, Noel). Wij vielen meteen voor de band na het beluisteren van hun track 'The Wreck is Not a Boat' (afkomstig uit hun gelijknamig debuut) op MySpace. Niet alleen de diep emotionele stem van Tom Cowan is een troef, maar ook de rijke muzikale sound van de band (denk: cello, viool, trompet, klarinet,…). Ze toerden o.a. met David Grubbs, Peggy Sue, Rothko en zelfs tweemaal met Mumford & Sons. Met Laura Marling deelden ze het podium in de prestigieuze Royal Festival Hall en met Jaga Jazzist en Efterklang stonden ze in de Londense Barbican. Recent geluidsfeit: hun dit jaar verschenen EP ‘Rivers’. Klaar voor hun ongetwijfeld indrukwekkend Belgisch podiumdebuut?
