Ambiance! Warmte en charme! Maar Patrice biedt ook aardig gefundeerd engagement. Dat bleek nog maar eens november 2008 in een uitverkochte AB. Nu terug op een zaterdag, en weer paraat voor een gegarandeerd opwindend concert. Vraag het maar aan alle frisse fans. Of luister ondertussen naar 'One' de stralende nieuwe cd bij Warner!?
En we hernemen toch nog even wat we vorige keer al wisten te melden. Een mooie artiest, deze Patrice. Gezegend met een soepele, gevoelige stem en een meester in zijn hoogst eigen genre. Met alle beste elementen van funk, soul, folk, poprock en reggae zeer virtuoos verstrengeld.
Uiteraard horen we hier nog altijd Bob Marley als grote voorbeeld, maar er is ook de nieuwe reggaelichting à la Gentleman, tot en met de muzikale aanpak van een Ayo of Asa of Sara Tavares. 'Free-Patri-Ation', zo heette zijn vorige cd (met ondermeer ook Ayo én Seun Kuti!). Patrice nam ons toen al verder mee op een lekkere én leerzame muzikale trip. Met songs als 'Dove Of Peace', 'Praise His Name' en natuurlijk ook de fijne woordspeling van de cd titel.
Patrice is het kind van een Duitse mama en Afrikaanse papa. Voluit heet hij Patrice Babatunde Bart-Williams. En daar hoort een heel verhaal bij: Patrice zoals Lumumba, de eerste Congolese president; Babatunde dat 'de terugkeer van vader' moet betekenen (Patrice werd geboren op de dag dat zijn grootvader stierf); en tenslotte Bart-Williams zoals zijn overleden vader Gaston (auteur en activist in Siera Leone). Maar de wijde wereld kent hem als Patrice 'sans plus'. En dankzij artiesten als Patrice is dit ook een beetje een blijde wereld.
Voorprogramma wordt de ook al zeer aangrijpende Afrikaanse Duitser (of omgekeerd): Fetsum.
