Brazil altpop reggaeton afrobeat electrorock
Wereldpop (door een powertrio). Lucas Santtana is een Braziliaanse klankentovenaar. Gitarist en zanger, maar ook een slimme multi-instrumentalist en geslepen meester in moderne apparatuur. Hij gebruikt onder andere graag een 'monome', een 'hand made open source sampler' (zie onderaan voor meer over die leuke knopjes en loopjes.)
Deze Santtana werkte al met Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Arto Lindsey, Tom Zé, Chico Science...
Maar ondertussen ook al aan zijn vijfde cd toe: 'O Deus que devasta mas também cura.' En dit quasi tegelijk met het remix album 'Remix Nostalgia', een (jawel) remix van 'Sem Nostalgia' zijn doorbraak-cd van 2011. Hiervoor alleszins al lof bij Les Inrocks en The Times. En ook de site van Radio 1 bood recent nog uitgebreid Lucas Santtana in voorbeluistering aan.
Dan vallen er dus prettige termen als 'altpop, afrobeat, reggaeton, electrorock...' Maar ook: 'technicolour masterpiece, soaring symphonic ballads, horn-led ska, heavyweight grooves, fizzing melodies and dazzling arrangements.'
Lucas en zijn trio vergelijken hun gelaagde aanpak graag met de werkwijze van Radiohead of Metronomy: 'Op het vlak van melodie, ritme en harmonie is bijna alles al eens gedaan. Niemand zal het wiel terug uitvinden. Wat we wel kunnen doen is het geluid op een nieuwe manier ineendraaien.'

Voorprogramma wordt niemand minder dan Catherine Feeny. Een bekoorlijke Amerikaanse die al vaker welkom was in de AB. Maar deze keer met haar vierde cd extra spannend want uitgesproken gelinkt aan de Occupy-beweging. Eind vorig jaar deed miss Feeny hier intens aan mee (zie ook de clip.) Er wacht haar hiervoor mogelijks ook nog een proces. En de gebeurtenissen hebben haar teksten en muziek duidelijk ook getekend: 'This galvanizing experience inspired Feeny's fourth solo album. A bold and haunting statement about a nation on a precipice, "America" deftly juxtaposes the fragile beauty of hope with the menace of arrogance and corruption.'
