Voor wie bezwijkt bij Nick Drake,Karen Dalton,Vashti Bunyan
Linda Perhacs. Vashti Bunyan. Karen Dalton. Ze hebben één ding gemeen: in de jaren zeventig brachten ze allen één of meerdere folkalbums uit waarvan het muzikale belang pas rond de eeuwwisseling duidelijk werd. Ambassadeurs als Nick Cave namen het op voor de blanke Billie Holiday (Karen Dalton) en new weird folkie Devendra Banhart schreeuwde aan allen die het wilde horen zijn liefde en appreciatie uit voor Vashti Bunyan en Linda Perhacs.
Deze laatste – geboren in Californië als Linda Jeanne Arnold – bracht in 1970 het bloedmooie psychedelische folkalbum ‘Parallelograms’ uit. Helaas: het album werd door de buitenwereld straal genegeerd en Linda Perhacs stortte zich op haar andere bezigheid: een tandartspraktijk uitbaten in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.
Tot op het moment dat haar debuut (en enige album tot nogtoe) eind vorige eeuw opnieuw werd uitgebracht en een nieuwe generatie muziekliefhebbers annex muzikanten haar herontdekten. Devendra Banhart inviteerde haar op zijn album ‘Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon’ (’07) en Daft Punk gebruikte een song van haar (‘If You Were My Man’) in hun film ‘Electroma’ (’06).
Die hernieuwde aandacht brengt Linda Perhacs nu voor het eerst naar België, 43 jaar na haar inmiddels wél felbejubelde debuut. En met wat geluk hoort u die avond reeds enkele songs uit haar nieuwe in 2014 te verschijnen album ’The Soul Of All Natural Things’ waarop tevens Julia Holter en Devendra Banhart te horen zullen zijn.
Linda, mocht u dit lezen: het is een hele eer u in AB te mogen verwelkomen.
De avond met Linda Perhacs wordt een heuse double bill door de toevoeging van Glenn Jones. Jones maakte destijds deel uit van de art rock band Cul De Sac. Onder eigen naam bracht hij reeds een handvol albums uit waaronder het jongste ‘My Garden State’ verscheen via Thrill Jockey. Jones is schatplichtig aan John Fahey en is voer voor fingerpicking fans.
