De tickets van het concert van 7 december en 7 maart blijven geldig en dienen niet omgewisseld te worden.

Eugene Hütz van het prettig gestoord, veelkleurig collectief Gogol Bordello is naast frontman en boegbeeld, acteur, dj en componist blijkbaar ook poëet na de werkuren. Maar deze drie zinnen, te lezen op hun facebookpagina, vatten de bestaansreden van de met balkanbeats, gypsy, punk en dub besmette bende globetrotters perfect samen: Gogol Bordello is liefde! Liefde voor feest en uitspattingen, liefde voor het vermengen van verschillende muziekstijlen, liefde voor andere culturen… Grensoverschrijdend en altijd met een portie aanstekelijk positivisme! Bands als deze zijn meer dan ooit nodig in onze door depressie en repressie bezoedelde maatschappij. En Gogol is net op tijd helemaal terug!
Na ‘let’s Get Crazy’ dat diende als soundtrack voor Euro 2012 (mede gehost door Oekraïne waar Hütz vandaan komt) regende het berichten over nieuw werk van Gogol Bordello. En die waren niet gelogen want op 23 juli ziet ‘Pura Vida Conspiracy’, in goede banen geleid door Andrew Scheps (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Adele, Green Day, Metallica), het levenslicht. Pas op, de eerste single is trouwens oorzaak van een serieuze pandemie die sinds kort de wereld teistert: die hardnekkige dansmicrobe krijg je niet snel uit je lijf na het beluisteren van het aanstekelijke ‘Malandrino’!
Songsmid Hütz haalde voor Gogol’s zesde plaat inspiratie uit de Latijns-Amerikaanse cultuur (hij leefde jaren in Brazilië) vermengd met zijn Oekraïnse roots. "Right now the focus is mixing Balkan music with Latin American, because those two have discovered each other and are going fucking bananas” vertelde hij hierover en met een degelijke snuif gypsy, punk, dub en rock ’n’ roll erbij zal het weer stuiven zoals in de goeie ouwe dagen.
Begin juni speelde Gogol op het door Metallica gehoste Orion Festival en op zondag 7 juli zetten ze de weide van Werchter in brand waarna ze doorstomen richting thuisbasis US. Ze delen op 15 augustus zelfs het podium met Qotsa dus meer rock ‘n’ roll dan dit wordt het niet. Of toch? Natuurlijk wel, want ik vergeet hun show in AB op 7 december te vermelden. ‘Let’s Get Crazy’?
De hese bariton van Chuck Ragan, frontman van het fantastische Hot Water Music, diende al als opwarmer voor mede-folkpunkers Frank Turner en The Gaslight Anthem en met zijn vierde langspeler ‘Till Midnight’ houdt hij, met full band!, halt in AB. Eerlijke, authentieke folkpunk/americana die hart en benen verwarmd. En dat komt goed uit, want die laatste zal je nodig hebben om volledig los te gooien bij Gogol Bordello!
Northcote bijt de spits eraf met een portie door punk geïnspireerde folk! Singer/songwriter Matt Goud staat er alleen voor op het AB-podium maar dat kan geen enkel probleem zijn voor deze Canadese versie van rasartiesten als Billy Bragg en Bruce Springsteen.
