Opwindende postpunk-dance-electronica!
Het Londense ‘four-track noisecore/electro/synthwave’ trio Factory Floor is hot! Ze laten zich enkel opmerken op billings die 100% hun eigen voorkeur wegdragen. Soms is dat aan de zijde van The Vaccines of director Chris Cunningham, dan weer aan de zijde van niemand minder dan Portishead.
En in ’11 kozen ze ooit zelfs voor een optreden in AB!
Factory Floor gebruikt vintage keyboards aangelengd met even oude synthezisers, tape-echos en helse drumsets, Denk: Joy Division of Kraftwerk op speed met een stem die ons doet denken aan Nico.
Het Britse NME plaatste hen destijds tussen ‘Hidden’ van These New Puritans en ‘Sisterworld’ van Liars. Smijt daar nog Lcd Soundsystem en Health bovenop kwa vergelijking en u komt dicht in de buurt.
Dit jaar verschijnt eindelijk hun langverwachte stomende debuut. De verwachtingen staan uitermate hoog gespannen. Wedden dat ze ingelost worden?
“I would have remortgaged my soul to get this music out there”. Zo schreef een journalist van de invloedrijke Britse muziekblog The Quietus toen hij enkele demo’s beluisterde van East India Youth. Het resultaat: de geboorte van zowel Quietus Phonographic Corporation als de release van ‘Hostel EP’ waarop een perfect huwelijk te horen is van bedroompop, krautrock en techno. Mooi als woorden daden worden.
