Met Rhymesayers dé hoop van de Minneapolis hip-hop scene
‘No Kings’ is het tweede all-crew album van het hip-hop collectief Doomtree uit Minneapolis dat vooral bekend staat voor zijn explosieve live shows en hun energieke DIY mentaliteit. Bovendien overtreden zij de regels van het genre en brouwen net als hun stadsgenoten op het Rhymesayers label een intelligent en hedendaags brouwsel.
De 7 leden van Doomtree (P.O.S., Dessa, Sims, Cecil Otter, Mike Mictlan, Lazerbeak en Paper Tiger) houden er bovendien prima solocarrières op na die op de voet gevolgd worden door toonaangevende pers als The New York Times, Spin en Rolling Stone. Wanneer zij samen het podium bestijgen breekt de hel los, niet in het minst door hun producties waarin punk, indierock en experiment mekaar vinden. De opvolger van hun prima ‘False Hopes XV’ kreeg de titel ‘No Kings’ mee omdat Doomtree oproept tot rebellie én respect. There are no kings in Minneapolis.
Dit concert maakt deel uit van het Minneapolis, Mon Amour project dat AB in het seizoen 2011-2012 op poten zet. In deze concertreeks rond het muzikale erfgoed van deze Amerikaanse stad vieren we de 30ste verjaardag van het debuut van de Amerikaanse rockband The Replacements ‘Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash’. Een ankerpunt in de muziekgeschiedenis dat AB aangrijpt om onder meer concerten van oudgedienden The Jayhawks en Grant Hart te presenteren, alsook nieuwe namen zoals Howler, Dark Dark Dark en 2 vooraanstaande hip hop crews: Rhymesayers en deze Doomtree.
