De avond rond Das Racist wordt een lichtjes hysterische triple bill.
Hip-hop but not as we know it. Das Racist is een art-freak-rap-trio uit Brooklyn. Himanshu Kumar Suri groeide net als Ashok Kondabolu op in Queens. Ze ontmoetten Victor Vasquez op het Sarah Lawrence Bard Pomona Wesleyan Art College in Massachusetts. Of misschien ook niet want humor is nooit ver weg in hun leftfield hip-hop die de vloer aanveegt met het genre. Hierdoor worden ze soms afgeschilderd als clowns, maar hun tracks worden wel aangeleverd door Diplo, El-P en andere grote namen uit de underground. Vergaarden roem dankzij hun internet track ‘Combination Pizza Hut Taco Bell’ in 2008. In 2010 werden ze dan eindelijk serieus genomen dankzij enkele mixtapes die hen in de lijstjes van Spin Magazine, MTV en Rolling Stone deden belanden. En die eerste mixtape ‘Shut Up, Dude’ kreeg bovendien een 7.8 van de Pitchfork Media bijbel.
Openen doen we met het fenomenale Kraantje Pappie. Blies ons omver op het recente Eurosonic festival waar hij tracks van zijn nieuwe album, met beats van zijn beroemde drum 'n bass stadgenoten Noisia bracht. Net aangesloten bij Noah's Ark (label van Jiggy Djé), een steeds groter wordend netwerk en een berg passie en talent op zak, werkt Kraan zichzelf langzaam omhoog tussen de grote namen die de Nederlandse hiphop/rap cultuur rijk is.
Daarna is het de beurt aan Speed Dial 7 ofte het nieuwste alter-ego van Tom De Geeter; het brein achter de avant-hop acts Cavemen Speak en later Zucchini Drive. Nog maar net bekomen van zijn ‘Short Rich Apocalypse’ waarop hij de hulp inriep van Mike Ladd, M Sayyid, Passage, K-the-I???, Rob Sonic, Pip Skid, John Smith, Bidrapres, Bleubird en vele andere, schreef hij tijdens de tournee van dat album alweer een nieuw opus bij mekaar. ‘11’ vind je vanaf 19 april in de winkel.
