Dromerige folkpop van de bovenste plank ... uit Minneapolis
Zeer mooie ontdekking op Les Nuits Botanique voorjaar 2011. Met akoestische instrumentatie gaf het uit Minneapolis afkomstige vijftal Dark Dark Dark een prachtig concert in de intieme setting van het Musée. Ze brachten er vooral werk uit hun tweede album ‘Wild Go’ (ook beschikbaar met de extra E.P. ‘Bright Bright Bright’); een breed geschakeerde verzameling songs waarbij de stem van Nona Marie Invie één wordt met dromerige folkpop van de bovenste plank.
De andere songschrijver van dienst (naast Nona Marie) is Marshall LaCount en samen weten zij invloeden divers als minimalisme, Oost-Europese folk, New Orleans jazz, americana en pop te verzoenen. Voor ‘Wild Go’ wist de band bovendien Tom Herbers als producer te strikken, die voordien al samenwerkte met The Jayhawks en Low.
Een ukelele, een banjo, een speelgoedpiano, een kazoo en een klokkenspel. Je hoort het allemaal terug bij het Parijse trio We Were Evergreen. De teksten gaan over jodelende yaks, kinderen die voor de winter naar het zuiden vliegen en kleine bomen die te hard groeien. ‘Ukulélé, piano au compte-gouttes et pingouin malicieux illuminent cette petite rengaine aussi naïve qu'addictive’. Dit concert maakt deel uit van het Minneapolis, Mon Amour project dat AB in het seizoen 2011-2012 op poten zet. In deze concertreeks rond het muzikale erfgoed van deze Amerikaanse stad vieren we de 30ste verjaardag van het debuut van de Amerikaanse rockband The Replacements ‘Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash’. Een ankerpunt in de muziekgeschiedenis dat AB aangrijpt om onder meer concerten van oudgedienden The Jayhawks en Grant Hart te presenteren, alsook nieuwe namen zoals Howler en deze Dark Dark Dark.
