Teletijdmachine naar de jazz van de swingende jaren ‘30
C.W. Stoneking, de Australiër die eigenhandig – en zichtbaar moeiteloos – de jaren ’30 weer tot leven roept, speelde zonet 3 uitverkochte concerten in ons land. Met zijn Primitive Horn Orchestra speelt hij trouwens wereldwijd voor drukbezochte zalen met songs die ze plukken uit 5 albums waarvan de 2 recentste (‘King Hokum’ en ‘Jungle Blues’) veelal eigen werk bevatten.
Enkele prima vertolkingen op televisie (van Later With Jools Holland tot De Laatste Show) maken van hem een heuse ster, en dat met muziek die hippe vogels als compleet gedateerd zouden beschouwen. Maar het is net zijn frisse benadering, waarbij hij eigen songs een tijdje laat marineren in swingende vintage calypso-stijl, die zo aanstekelijk blijkt. Een resultaat dat hij verder opsmukt met elementen uit blues, vaudeville, ragtime, hillbilly en jazz.
Op woensdag 22 februari 2012 is Christopher William (lang voor C.W.) Stoneking terug in ons land voor een concert in de AB.
Support wordt de uit Berlijn afkomstige Gemma Ray. Van haar wordt in februari een nieuw album verwacht getiteld 'Gemma Ray Sings Sparks (with Sparks)'. Jimmy Page is alvast fan van deze jongedame.
