Zowat alles klopt bij Belle & Sebastian: het imago, de prachtige hoezen (met doorgaans zéér bevallige dames), hun mediaschuwheid en nog het meest hun ronduit perfecte, prachtige popsongs. Gezicht Stuart Murdoch richtte B&S op in ‘96 te Glasgow. Hun albums 'Tigermilk', 'The Boy With The Arab Strap' en 'Fold Your Hands Child,...' (met de dames van het Ijslandse Múm op de hoes) zijn inmiddels klassiekers. In het najaar van 2010 verscheen hun langverwachte album ‘Write about Love’ (met medewerking van o.a. Norah Jones), de opvolger van het straffe in ‘06 verschenen ‘The Life Pursuit’. Ook daarbuiten is B&S – overigens: de naam is afkomstig van een filmreeks van actrice Cécile Aubry - actief. Mid december cureerde de band in de UK Bowlie II (met o.a. Dirty Projectors, ex-B&S-lid Isobel Campbell,…), de opvolger van het in ’99 opgezette The Bowlie Weekender, zeg maar de voorloper van All Tomorrow’s Parties. Ook het afgelopen jaar verschenen project ‘God Help the Girl’, ‘een hypotetische filmmusical’ dixit de band, was een voltreffer. Tijd dus voor B&S III: ofte de derde AB-passage van B&S gespreid over ruwweg een decennium. Niet slecht, want weet dat B&S met liveshows eerder spaarzaam zijn…
Support wordt het al even Schotse Zoey Van Goey. Dit indiepop kwartet debuteerde in ’07 met de single ‘Foxtrot Vandals’, in een produktie van Belle & Sebastian-frontman Stuart Murdoch. In hun thuisland werden ze omschreven als "Postal Service with a sense of humour". Inmiddels verschenen er twee albums van de band en mochten ze op All Tomorrow’s Parties aantreden dat in december ’10 onder de noemer ‘Bowlie 2’ werd gecureerd door – u raadt het nooit – Belle & Sebastian.
►►► DOMINO FACTS…
Belle & Sebastian was reeds eerder present op Domino in ‘04 ten tijde van hun album ‘Dear Catastrophe Waitress’. Ex-Belle & Sebastian-lid Isobel Campbell trad dan weer aan in ’06 op Domino ten tijde van haar prachtig album ‘Ballad Of The Broken Seas’. Helaas zonder Mark Lanegan, maar die triomfeerde op zijn beurt met The Gutter Twins op Domino in ’08 (ondanks het feit dat Greg Dulli halfweg de set richting ziekenhuis trok wegens dehydratatie). De zusjes van het Ijslandse MÚM die op de B&S-hoes 'Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like A Peasant’' sierden, debuteerden op Domino tijdens een Fat Cat avond (met o.a. MICE PARADE en DUPLO REMOTE) in de ABClub in ’01.
