C'est tout simplement le plus beau nom de scène à l'affiche de cette dernière édition du Domino. Derrière Spookhuisje, se cache un Bruxellois connu pour son magnifique jeu de guitare influencé par les grands maîtres du raga indien, Jimi Hendrix, les drones et la musique psychédélique. Un son hanté !
21h00 - The Beautiful Band (b)
Emmené par Bram Devens (Ignatz), Paul Labreque (Sunburned Hand Of The Man), Laurent Cartuyvels (R.O.T.), Laurent Gerard (él-g) et Patrick Calvelo (Monokiri), The Beautiful Band est ce que l’on appelle un « super groupe ». Ils disent faire de l' AOR (album-oriented rock), dans la veine du Crazy Horse et de Creedence Clearwater Revival. Leur son se révèle cependant tout ce qu'il y a de plus personnel et reconnaissable. Ignatz et R.O.T., tous deux membres de Beautiful Band, se sont déjà produits sur la scène de l'AB, dans le cadre du Domino, mais c’est la première fois qu'on les verra ensemble.

Wu Lyf aime cultiver le mystère et ça lui sert. Jetez un oeil sur leur page MySpace. La démarche s’avère complètement inutile, si vous désirez vous plonger dans l'univers extraordinaire de Wu Lyf, alias World Unite - Lucifer Youth Foundation. Leur propre site web n'apporte pas plus d'éclaircissements, hormis vous donner l'impression d'avoir affaire à une secte basée à Manchester. Sinon que penser du message 'Wu Lyf are kids that play heavy, lost brothers looking for a place to call home...', suivi par des prophéties bibliques sur les enfers et les catastrophes naturelles. La toile offre, par contre, un peu plus de choses à se mettre sous la dent. Des titres comme ‘Christ Mass’, ‘Lucifer Calling’, ‘Spitting It Concrete Like a Golden Sun God’ et ‘Heavy Pop’ sont particulièrement intrigants. Musicalement, on les classera quelque part entre le krautrock, le gospel, le rap noir, Spiritualized, The Swans et – dixit The Guardian – le hip-hop égyptien, Health et Happy Mondays. A voir pour la première fois sur le sol belge. Un album suivra dans le courant de l'année.

►►► DOMINO FACTS…
Proposer, sur une même soirée, trois groupes qui n’avaient encore sorti aucun album, voilà qui n’avait rien d’exceptionnel au Domino. Nous avons très tôt offert une plate-forme à des artistes belges qui allaient faire parler d'eux, par la suite.
Pensez à THE BONY KING OF NOWHERE qui a joué au Domino en '07, alors que son premier opus ‘Alas My Love’ n'est sorti qu'en '09. En '00, FRANCO SAINT DE BAKKER est apparu sur la scène de l'AB sans avoir un seul album à son actif. Son premier effort a seulement vu le jour en '04. ‘Live At The Ancienne Belgique I, II et III’ allaient encore suivre, par la suite. Des membres de Franco Saint se sont ensuite retrouvés dans des groupes comme Novastar, Zita Swoon et Flip Kowlier. STIJN s'est produit à l'ABClub en '03. Son premier opus, ‘Euphoric’, n'est sorti que l'année suivante alors qu’il faisait un carton avec son tube ‘Sexjunkie’. Pour clore, rappelons aussi que DRUMS ARE FOR PARADES a assuré avec fracas la première partie de A Place To Bury Strangers en '09. Son premier album, ‘Master’, est sorti, quant à lui, en '10.
Nous épinglerons encore une jolie filiation avec la présence, au sein de The Beautiful Band, d’artistes comme IGNATZ et R.O.T. Tous deux se sont déjà produits sur la scène de l'AB et ont un lien direct avec le label gantois (K-RAA-K)³ qui avait composé le programme de deux magnifiques soirées en '04 et '07. (K-RAA-K)³ a également été l'architecte d'une des soirées Domino les plus étonnantes, ‘Cassete Crusts On Tape Trips ... A Cassette Night’, qui ne rassemblait que des groupes fortement ancrés dans la culture cassette.
