Wavves a surpris tout le monde avec ses deux premiers albums, âWavvesâ et âWavvvesâ , oĂč l'on retrouve un mĂ©lange de punk, de surfpop et de noise dans un habillage lo-fi. Le groupe, Ă l'Ă©poque composĂ© du chanteur/guitariste Nathan Williams et du batteur Ryan Ulsh, a Ă©tĂ© immĂ©diatement encensĂ© par les mĂ©dias branchĂ©s et un public underground. AprĂšs une foule de problĂšmes personnels, nous pensions ne plus jamais entendre parler d'eux. Jusqu'Ă ce jour. Pour la rĂ©alisation de âKing Of The Beachâ, Nathan Williams a mis pour la premiĂšre fois les pieds dans un vĂ©ritable studio d'enregistrement, sous l'aile bienveillante de Dennis Herring (connu pour son travail avec Camper Van Beethoven et Modest Mouse). Williams est depuis parvenu Ă s'adjoindre les services de la section rythmique de Jay Reatard , dĂ©cĂ©dĂ© en dĂ©but d'annĂ©e. 'King Of The Beachâ regorge de chansons sympathiques et accrocheuses, et ce n'est pas les membres de Phoenix qui viendront nous contredire vu qu'ils ont Ă©tĂ© particuliĂšrement prompts Ă emmener Wavves en tournĂ©e.
La premiĂšre partie sera assurĂ©e par le trio noise pop post-punk Ping Pong Tactics. Oscillant entre pop et chaos, nos trois lascars prĂŽnent les prĂ©ceptes du DIY et ont sorti prĂ©cĂ©demment une cassette en Ă©dition limitĂ©e (chaque exemplaire Ă©tait unique) ainsi qu'un EP pour lequel ils ont eux-mĂȘmes sĂ©rigraphiĂ© toutes les pochettes. Cutting Edge les a dĂ©jĂ Ă©levĂ©s au rang de Talent de la Semaine et Ă©crivait Ă leur sujet : « Ping Pong Tactics sonne comme l'enfant bĂątard de Kim Deal et Frank Black qui aurait mal tournĂ© et qu'on calme avec une guitare Ă cinq euros ».
