True country, roots rock, strong songs, honest words!
Cet Américain pure souche se montre toutefois très soucieux du monde et est l'une des figures les plus marquantes de la scène country-rock. Steve Earle enthousiasme en solo, se révèle foudroyant avec ses Dukes et est tout simplement bluffant lorsqu'il se produit aux côtés d'artistes bluegrass comme le Del Mccouryband. Mais ça, on le savait déjà. On a peine à croire que son dernier passage à l'AB remonte à 2004. Cette fois, il nous revient sous le nom de Steve Earle & The Dukes (and Duchesses) feat. Allison Moorer ! Le groupe tire avantageusement parti de la magnifique voix de cette dernière et du fait qu'elle n'est autre que madame Earle à la ville.
Avec 'I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive' paru sur le label New West (cf. Kris Kristofferson et John Hiatt), Earle signe son 20e album. Le titre est emprunté à Hank Williams, comme cela avait déjà été le cas pour l'album 'Townes' que Earle avait entièrement dédié à l'oeuvre de son ancien ami trop tôt disparu.
Pour ceux qui ne connaîtraient pas Earle, on se situe ici au coeur de la country, de la musique roots, de Nashville et de l'americana. On est aussi face à un mentor qui pense réellement ce qu'il chante et qui n'élude plus aucun sujet ces dernières années (que ce soit en tant qu'acteur, auteur ou programmateur radio).
Il n'y aura pas de première partie. Attendez-vous donc à plus de deux heures de Steve Earle. Toute une soirée consacrée à un feu d'artifice verbal et musical. De la vraie belle ouvrage !
