Ambiance chaleureuse et charme garantis ! Mais Patrice est aussi un artiste gentiment engagĂ©. C'est ce quâil a encore laissĂ© paraĂźtre en novembre 2008 dans une AB pleine Ă craquer. Il nous revient cette fois un samedi, prĂȘt Ă nous servir un de ces concerts exaltants dont il a le secret. Nous rĂ©affirmons ce que nous avions dit la derniĂšre fois. Ce Patrice est un bien bel artiste. DotĂ© dâune voix ample et Ă©mouvante, il est passĂ© maĂźtre dans un genre qui lui est tout personnel, mĂȘlant avec virtuositĂ© les meilleurs ingrĂ©dients du funk, de la soul, du folk, du pop rock et du reggae.
On y entend bien sĂ»r lâinfluence du grand Bob Marley, mais aussi la nouvelle gĂ©nĂ©ration reggae dans lâesprit dâun Gentleman, et une approche musicale plus folk dans la veine dâAyo, Asa ou Sara Tavares. Son dernier album en date paru chez Universal s'intitulait âFree-Patri-Ationâ (avec notamment Ayo et Seun Kuti !). Avec des chansons comme âDove Of Peaceâ, âPraise His Nameâ et le subtil jeu de mots de la plage titulaire, Patrice nous entraĂźnait un pas plus loin, dans un dĂ©licieux voyage musical et instructif.
NĂ© dâune mĂšre allemande et dâun pĂšre sierra-lĂ©onais, Patrice se prĂ©nomme, en rĂ©alitĂ©, Patrice Babatunde Bart-Williams. Ce patronyme a son histoire. Ses parents lâont appelĂ© Patrice en hommage Ă Patrice Lumumba, le tout premier Premier Ministre congolais. Babatunde signifie, de son cĂŽtĂ©, « le retour du vieux » en souvenir de son grand-pĂšre dĂ©cĂ©dĂ© le jour de sa naissance. Quant Ă Bart-Williams, il sâagit du nom de son pĂšre Gaston, auteur et activiste aujourdâhui disparu. Notre chanteur est cependant largement plus connu sous le nom de Patrice. Et, ce sont des artistes de sa trempe qui rendent, dĂ©cidĂ©ment, notre monde plus agrĂ©able.
