Cette double affiche réunit, en exclusivité, deux artistes particulièrement brillants et funky en la personne de KEZIAH JONES et de PATRICE. Tous d'eux ont des racines africaines et ont su développer une musique crossover à la fois stimulante et hautement personnelle.
Un bien bel artiste, ce PATRICE. Doté d'une voix ample et émouvante, il est passé maître dans un genre qui lui est tout personnel, mêlant avec virtuosité les meilleurs ingrédients du funk, de la soul, du folk, du pop rock et du reggae. On y entend bien sûr l'influence du grand BOB MARLEY, mais aussi la nouvelle génération reggae dans l'esprit d'un GENTLEMAN, et une approche musicale plus folk dans la veine d'AYO, ASA ou SARA TAVARES. 'Free-Patri-Ation' est le titre de son nouvel album à paraître chez Universal (avec notamment Ayo et Seun Kuti !). Avec des chansons comme 'Dove Of Peace', 'Praise His Name' et le subtil jeu de mots de la plage titulaire, Patrice nous entraîne, un pas plus loin, dans un délicieux voyage musical et instructif. L'album a bénéficié d'une production soignée, signée Commissioner Gordon, producteur déjà récompensé à multiples reprises pour son travail sur 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill'.
Né d'une mère allemande et d'un père sierra-léonais, Patrice se prénomme, en réalité, Patrice Babatunde Bart-Williams. Ce patronyme a son histoire. Ses parents l'ont appelé Patrice en hommage à Patrice Lumumba, le tout premier Premier Ministre congolais. Babatunde signifie, de son côté, 'le retour du vieux' en souvenir de son grand-père décédé le jour de sa naissance. Quant à Bart-Williams, il s'agit du nom de son père Gaston, auteur et activiste aujourd'hui disparu. Notre chanteur est cependant largement plus connu sous le nom de Patrice. Et, ce sont des artistes de sa trempe qui rendent, décidément, notre monde plus agréable.
Originaire du Nigéria, c'est pourtant dans les rues de Londres et de Paris que KEZIAH JONES s'est fait la main. Ses puissants albums sont d'ailleurs édités, depuis le début des années 90, par le label français Because (cf. Manu Chao). Au fil des ans, Keziah Jones s'est forgé un style personnel qu'il a baptisé le 'blufunk'. Emprunté à la technique du slap utilisée par les bassistes, son jeu de guitare est particulièrement caractéristique. Depuis le paradis du rock 'n' roll, ces grandes icônes que sont Fela Kuti et Jimi Hendrix doivent opiner de la tête avec satisfaction. Keziah Jones fait clairement partie de ces artistes qui parviennent à donner le meilleur d'eux-mêmes en solo. Sa page Myspace propose actuellement un savoureux mix de chansons sensibles et de titres plus funky en avant-goût de l'album à paraître. Ce nouvel album auquel il apporte actuellement la touche finale aux Etats-Unis répond au nom très inspiré de 'Nigerian Wood'. Le très beau 'My Kinda Girl' est le premier single à en être extrait. Il s'agit déjà du cinquième opus de Keziah Jones, après un éloquent 'Black Orpheus' auréolé de succès.
