Ce concert est organisé dans le cadre des VW Spring Sessions
Pat Metheny, câest ce dieu amĂ©ricain de la guitare. On pourrait ranger cet artiste inspirĂ© dans la catĂ©gorie jazz rock ou fusion. Mais il outrepasse cette classification, pour ainsi dire sans problĂšme, par son jeu fluide et enthousiaste.
Son premier opus, paru en 1976, a Ă©tĂ© suivi par plus de 50 autres albums sous diverses appellations. On a pu le voir dâinnombrables fois (et Ă guichets fermĂ©s) Ă lâAB mais sa derniĂšre visite remonte Ă 2005.
Avec qui nâa-t-il pas dĂ©jĂ jouĂ© ? L'homme s'est illustrĂ© avec pas mal de beau monde, multipliant les collaborations passionnantes avec, entre autres, Jaco Pastorius, Herbie Hancock, Joni Mitchell, Brad Mehldau, Jim Hall, Gary Burton, Chick Corea, Charlie Haden, Michael Brecker et mĂȘme David Bowie (pour 'This Is Not America').
Plus rĂ©cemment, on a pu dĂ©couvrir le CD 'Tap / John Zorn's Book Of Angels vol 20.' Pour ce dernier, John Zorn a apparemment Ă©crit plus de 300 compositions parmi lesquelles Pat Metheny a fait une sĂ©lection. De Standaard lui donnait 4* sur 5 : « les deux musiciens partagent une mĂȘme impĂ©tuositĂ©, une mĂȘme curiositĂ© et Ă©thique de travail ... »
Ă l'heure qu'il est, difficile de savoir Ă quoi s'attendre pour ce concert. Pat Metheny est occupĂ© Ă composer de nouveaux morceaux pour un album Ă paraĂźtre en fĂ©vrier 2014. Pour sa prestation Ă lâAB, on sait juste quâil sera accompagnĂ© de son Unity Group, composĂ© d'Antonio Sanchez (batterie) Chris Potter (saxophone), Ben Williams (basse) et Giulio Carmassi (multi-instrumentiste).
