The Last WILL and TESTAMENT - European Tour
In 2022, Opeth celebrated their 30th anniversary in style, with notable performances at the biggest festivals, including their sixth appearance at Graspop Metal Meeting. The masters of Swedish progressive metal are back this autumn with a new album titled 'The Last WILL and TESTAMENT'. So a European tour, also stopping in Belgium in early 2025, could not be missed! Opeth will take to the stage at the Ancienne Belgique on Sunday 23 February, with Grand Magus as special guest, for a powerful performance that promises to be a must-see...
Formed in Stockholm in 1990 by Lars Mikael Akerfeldt, Opeth revolutionised the genre with the release of their first album 'Orchid' in 1995. Their black metal sounds with folk melodies and guttural vocals grabbed metal fans by the throat and soon spread beyond the borders of Sweden. The band became one of the frontrunners of the melodic progressive death scene. Over the years, with changes of members and albums, Akerfeldt has evolved their style, flirting with 70s-inspired progressive rock, starting with their tenth album 'Heritage' in 2011. Subsequent albums follow the same progressive path, abandoning the usual Death Metal formula. 'Pale Communion' (2014) and 'Sorceress' (2016) continue to explore new horizons with talent. 'In Cauda Venenum' (2019) shows once again how far these metalheads stand out from the rest of the genre thanks to their great musical mastery.
The five Swedes are now preparing to return to our shores with a new European tour, and of course it will be with their new album under their belt! A new performance, a new challenge and new innovations. That's what we can expect from 'The Last WILL and TESTAMENT'.Â
